What This App Actually Does

Video Downloader HD – Vidow is a social-category app built for one job: saving publicly accessible videos to your phone for offline playback. It advertises support for MP4, M4V, MOV and other common formats, lets you pick resolution before downloading, run multiple downloads at once, and continue downloads in the background. There’s also a built-in player so you don’t need a separate app to watch what you’ve saved, plus casting to smart TVs. Importantly, the app’s own disclaimer states it does not support downloading from YouTube or any platform that prohibits downloading, so this is aimed at people who need to grab clips from smaller, download-friendly sites rather than mainstream streaming platforms.

Where It Performs Well

Several long-time users describe the app as fast and reliable for pulling videos from various platforms in high definition, praising the built-in browser and download manager for making it simple to save and organize files in one place. Reviewers also highlight the practical extras: pausing and resuming downloads, renaming and sharing files, and tracking completed versus in-progress downloads. For users who just want a straightforward way to batch-download clips and watch them later without hunting for a player, the core workflow clearly works for a large chunk of its user base.

The Ad Problem You’ll Notice Immediately

The most damaging complaint isn’t about download quality, it’s about the first-run experience. One widely-agreed review describes opening the app to a wall of ads with no interface or guide, leading to an uninstall within seconds. Another reviewer echoes this, saying they wish there were fewer ads even though they otherwise like the app. This suggests the free version leans heavily on ad monetization in a way that actively gets in the way of first impressions, which matters a lot for a utility app people expect to use quickly and get out of.

Update Nags and Navigation Friction

A second recurring frustration involves forced update prompts. One user reports the app repeatedly demanding an update before it will download anything, and claims the updated version still doesn’t work properly, calling the whole cycle ridiculous. Separately, a popular review flags a smaller but persistent annoyance: after tapping download, you’re bounced back to the main menu instead of staying in place to queue up more videos, forcing extra navigation for anyone downloading several clips in a row.

Who Should Actually Download This

If you mainly need to save clips from smaller public sites, want batch downloading with pause/resume control, and don’t mind tolerating ads or the occasional update prompt, Vidow’s core feature set delivers what plenty of reviewers say it delivers. But if you’re hoping to pull videos from YouTube or major streaming platforms, this isn’t built for that and says so upfront. And if a cluttered, ad-heavy first launch is a dealbreaker, the complaints here suggest you should brace yourself before installing, or consider whether the convenience is worth the friction.

“The first thing I saw after installing and opening the app was adds, no user interface or guide just adds. Uninstalled 5 sec later. Don't know if this thing works or not but there's a fine line between making a revenue out if adds or abusing it. I ain't got that much time to waste. Good luck to those all…”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Video Downloader HD - Vidow?

It's a mobile app that lets you download publicly accessible videos for offline viewing and manage them in one place. It supports formats like MP4, M4V, and MOV, offers resolution selection, background downloading, and a built-in video player. It also allows casting saved videos to smart TVs. It does not support downloading from YouTube or other platforms that prohibit downloads.

2

Is Video Downloader HD - Vidow free to use?

Yes, the app is free to download and use, but it relies on advertising to generate revenue. Multiple reviewers report a significant number of ads, with one user saying ads appeared immediately upon opening the app before any interface was visible. If ad-heavy free apps bother you, expect that experience here.

3

Can I download videos from YouTube using this app?

No. The app's own disclaimer explicitly states it does not support downloading from YouTube or any platform that prohibits downloading. It's limited to publicly accessible content from supported platforms within the app, so YouTube fans should look elsewhere.

4

Do I need a separate app to play downloaded videos?

No, Vidow includes a built-in video player designed for smooth HD offline playback, so downloaded files can be watched directly inside the app. This also makes managing and organizing your saved videos easier since everything stays in one place. You can additionally cast these videos to a smart TV for a bigger screen experience.

5

What are the biggest complaints about this app?

The most frequent complaints involve an ad-heavy experience right at launch, with one reviewer uninstalling within seconds due to ads appearing before any usable interface. Others report frustrating forced update prompts that block downloading until you update, with claims that even updated versions sometimes don't work properly. A smaller but repeated gripe is that the app returns to the main menu after each download instead of letting you keep browsing for more videos.
