What This App Promises to Do

Photo Lock App – Hide Pictures is a vault-style personalization app for Android that lets you hide photos and videos behind a PIN, pattern, or fingerprint lock. Beyond basic hiding, it packs in extras like a disguised calculator icon, a fake ‘guest’ vault, private notes, a built-in browser, cloud backup, and an intruder-detection feature that snaps a photo of anyone trying to break in. It’s aimed at anyone who shares a phone with family or friends and wants a quick, no-fuss way to keep certain images away from prying eyes.

Where It Actually Works Well

Judging by real user feedback, the core hiding function does what it says for a lot of people. One long-time user described trying several gallery-lock apps before settling on this one, saying it finally worked ‘the way I wanted it to be’ once a memorable password was set. For casual use—locking a folder of pictures before handing your phone to a kid or a coworker—the basic experience seems to land well with a large share of reviewers, and the sheer install numbers suggest it’s an easy app to pick up and start using immediately without a steep learning curve.

The Password Recovery Problem

The most serious and recurring complaint is what happens when you forget your PIN or pattern. Multiple reviewers reported being permanently locked out of their own photos with no in-app recovery option, and emails to developer support went unanswered or received only generic replies. One user said their photos were ‘locked inside’ with no way back in; another said support just told them to ‘wait 24 hrs’ for days on end. If this app is your only copy of certain photos, that’s a real risk, not a minor inconvenience.

Bugs, Ads, and the Unhide Function

Several one-star reviews describe specific technical breakdowns rather than vague dissatisfaction. One user said the vault showed ‘0 photos to unhide’ while photos remained stuck inside and appeared blank. Another complained that restoring images back to the original gallery simply failed. There are also complaints about the note-taking UI being covered by the keyboard, a biometric lock that requires switching apps to refresh before it responds, and ads that reportedly blocked one user from even completing a paid upgrade meant to remove them. Support response, per these reviews, is slow and often unhelpful even for paying customers.

Who Should Actually Download This

If you just want a simple, free way to tuck away a handful of personal photos casually and you’re diligent about remembering your password (and maybe keeping a backup copy elsewhere), this app can do the basic job adequately, and plenty of users are satisfied with that. But if you’re hoping to rely on it as your only copy of sensitive media, the pattern of lockouts, glitchy ‘unhide’ behavior, and unresponsive support in these reviews is a serious red flag. Set a password you truly won’t forget, keep your own backup outside the app, and go in with modest expectations rather than treating this as a bulletproof vault.

Pros

  • Simple one-tap hiding of photos/videos
  • Fingerprint unlock supported
  • Disguised app icon option
  • Guest locker for decoy content
  • Easy for casual, low-stakes use

Cons

  • No reliable password recovery option
  • Reports of photos stuck or unhideable
  • Slow, unhelpful developer support

What Real Users Say

“It is a great app overall. It keeps ur private pictures and videos safe . And about the password , keep it easy like putting ur birth year in a descending order etc . I downloaded a lot of gallery secure apps , but didn't got the way I wanted it to be . Then I found this one and…”

“Update: The offer to help is nothing but sorry you're having trouble, try upgrading to a paid account, and then a survey asking me how they did. I still can't access my photos although they are on there. The irony is I couldn't upgrade to a paid account if I wanted to. The ads won't let me! DO NOT USE…”

“Creating notes sucks, UI doesn't work well with phone keyboard. lines are hidden by the keyboard if long enough. password biometric lock is buggy, have to switch away and come back to the app to get it to show. icon doesn't match alphabetical order by the title you give it, making it sus. uninstalled.”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Photo Lock App - Hide Pictures?

It's an Android personalization app that lets you hide photos and videos behind a PIN, pattern, or fingerprint lock. It also includes extras like a disguised calculator icon, private notes, a guest vault for decoy content, and cloud backup. It's designed for people who want to keep certain images private from anyone else using their phone.

2

Is Photo Lock App - Hide Pictures free?

The app is free to download and use for basic hiding features, with a paid upgrade available to remove ads and unlock extras. However, some reviewers reported that ads interfered with actually completing the paid upgrade process. It's worth going in expecting the free version to be functional but ad-supported.

3

What happens if I forget my password?

Based on user reports, this is a major weak point: several reviewers said there is no working recovery option if you forget your PIN or pattern. Users described emailing developer support and receiving no response or only generic troubleshooting advice. If you use this app, choose a password you are certain you'll remember.

4

Can I trust this app with my only copies of photos?

That's risky based on the review evidence. Multiple users reported photos becoming stuck in the vault, showing as blank, or the app reporting '0 photos to unhide' while media remained trapped inside. It's safer to keep a separate backup of anything truly important rather than relying solely on this vault.

5

Does the app have useful extra features beyond hiding photos?

Yes, it includes a private notes section, a built-in safe browser, cloud backup, an intruder-detection camera, and the ability to disguise the app icon as something like a calculator. That said, some of these extras have their own bugs, such as a notes interface where the keyboard covers text and a biometric lock that can be unresponsive.
