What Botim Actually Is and Who It’s For

Botim bills itself as an all-in-one communication and money app, bundling HD voice and video calls, chat with real-time AI translation, a digital wallet for sending money and topping up prepaid cards, and an AI assistant into a single package. It’s aimed squarely at people who need to call or message family and friends in the Middle East and other regions where traditional carrier rates or blocked VoIP services make normal calling difficult. If you have relatives abroad and want one app for calls, chat, and the occasional money transfer, this is the niche Botim is chasing.

Where the App Genuinely Delivers

For a lot of users, Botim still functions as a lifeline when other options aren’t available in their region, and reviewers confirm it does the basics and ‘works 70% of the time.’ The bundled feature set is broad on paper: call-hold, picture-in-picture, AI filters, wallet top-ups, bill pay, and a multi-currency prepaid card, so for users who only need occasional, low-stakes calls it can get the job done without needing a separate finance app.

Call Quality and Bluetooth Problems That Won’t Go Away

The most consistent complaint across real users is that calls don’t cleanly end. Multiple reviewers report that after hanging up, Bluetooth headsets and car audio systems stay stuck in low-bitrate call mode, with the microphone seemingly still active, and the only fix is force-closing the app entirely. One user specifically flagged this happening every time with Bluetooth headphones and car hands-free systems. On top of that, calls reportedly cut off after 10-15 minutes, voice quality is described as not great, and the app sometimes fails to let you answer an incoming call even while the ringtone is playing.

Contacts, Notifications, and Missing Basics

Several long-time complaints point to core reliability issues rather than missing extras. Users report the app can’t call numbers already in their address book, shows contacts under names they never saved, and simply won’t ring for incoming calls unless the app is already open in the foreground. Group calling is still unsupported, which is a notable gap for a communication app in 2024. These aren’t edge-case bugs — they undermine the app’s single stated purpose of making calls work.

Ads, Wallet Support, and Monetization Friction

Even on what reviewers describe as a paid version, ads still appear, and some are described as nagging or inappropriate given that ad personalization was turned off. The wallet side of the app has its own separate frustration: at least one user reported their Botim wallet payment options being disabled over an unexplained ‘security or compliance’ rejection, with customer support unresponsive across multiple emails and phone calls.

Final Verdict on Downloading Botim

Botim can be worth keeping if it’s genuinely your only way to reach someone in a region where alternatives don’t work, and you’re willing to tolerate inconsistent call quality and Bluetooth headaches. But if you have any other option — WhatsApp, Signal, or a regular carrier plan — the persistent bugs around hanging up, contacts, notifications, and unresponsive wallet support make this a frustrating primary choice rather than a confident recommendation.

Pros

  • Useful for calling regions with limited alternatives
  • Bundles calls, chat, and money transfer
  • Wallet supports bill pay and top-ups
  • AI translation for cross-language chats
  • Works even on low bandwidth connections

Cons

  • Bluetooth stays stuck in call mode after hangup
  • Missed calls and unreliable contact syncing
  • Ads persist even on paid version

What Real Users Say

A Google user 1/5

“I understand the aim is to monetize this, but the ads are too nagging, and sometimes inappropriate. I understand the ads are a reflection of what gets clicks (my ad personalisation is turned off), but still. It's annoying. Also, I use a Bluetooth headset and I always have a problem trying to listen to music after a call. The headset…”

“If I could give negative ratings, I sure would. This app is intended for one use and one use only, voice and video call, and it fails spectacularly at it. If there was another option to speak with loved ones in the Middle East, I would jump to it in a heartbeat. Features that have existed on competing apps for…”

Arun 3/5

“After hanging up the call the media played through Bluetooth is still in low bit rate call mode. Everytime the app has to be closed to rectify this. Issue is persistent with Bluetooth headphones and car audio. Car hands free shows still on call even after hanging up. Probably accessing the microphone too? The call quality is decent(US to UAE).…”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Botim - Video and Voice Call?

Botim is a communication app offering HD voice and video calls, chat with real-time AI translation, and a built-in digital wallet called botim money for transfers and bill payments. It also includes an AI assistant for handling calls, messages, and money transfers via voice or chat. It's developed by ALGENTO DMCC and is popular among users needing affordable international calling, particularly to the Middle East.

2

Is Botim free to use?

Botim offers free calling and messaging features, but user reviews mention ads appearing even on what they describe as a paid version. The wallet features like money transfers, top-ups, and the prepaid card likely involve fees, though specific pricing isn't detailed in the app's own description. Expect a freemium model where core calling is free but ads and financial services carry added costs.

3

Does Botim work reliably with Bluetooth headsets?

Based on user reports, no — this is one of the app's most persistent complaints. Multiple reviewers describe calls not properly ending on Bluetooth headphones and car audio systems, leaving devices stuck in low-bitrate call mode until the app is force-closed. If reliable Bluetooth calling is a priority, this is a real risk worth knowing before downloading.

4

Can Botim handle group calls?

No, according to user reviews, group calling is still not supported, which reviewers note as a notable gap for a modern calling app. If group video or voice calls are essential for your use case, you'll need to pair Botim with another app or choose a different service entirely.

5

Is the Botim wallet and money transfer feature trustworthy?

Experiences are mixed and at least one detailed complaint describes a wallet being disabled over an unexplained security or compliance rejection, with unresponsive customer support despite multiple emails and calls. If you plan to rely on Botim money for regular transfers or bill payments, be prepared for potential account issues and slow support response times.
