What BiP Actually Offers

BiP is a free messaging app from Turkcell that bundles text chat, voice and video calls, disappearing messages, live location, money transfers, and translation into over 100 languages. It also throws in status updates, channels, group polls, and an emergency alert feature that shares your location with trusted contacts. It’s aimed squarely at people who want a WhatsApp or Telegram alternative with a broader feature set baked in, and with over 112 million installs it clearly has a large existing user base, largely tied to Turkcell’s carrier partnerships that let some users message and call without burning mobile data.

Where BiP Delivers in Daily Use

When it works, users report being genuinely pleased with it, with one longtime user saying they were ‘very pleased with it’ for an extended period before running into phone-switching trouble. The core promise of encrypted, ad-free messaging with HD voice and video calls seems to satisfy people who stick with it, and the sheer breadth of features, reminders, polls, channels, translation, means it can replace several apps at once for users willing to learn it. The free-of-charge model with no subscription is also a real draw compared to apps that gate features behind paywalls.

The Login Wall That Locks Out Loyal Users

The most damaging and frequently repeated complaint is the ‘Too many failed attempts. Please try again later’ error that locks people out when reinstalling or switching phones. Multiple reviewers describe this exact scenario, including someone who couldn’t get back in after moving to a Motorola Razr, another stuck for 15 days despite contacting support, and a third who kept retrying over days with no success even after clearing cache. This isn’t a minor bug; it’s a login failure that can permanently strand a user who has already invested time building contacts and chat history in the app.

SMS and Notification Quirks Worth Knowing

Beyond the login lockout, a Google Pixel 7 Pro user on Verizon reported SMS messages going missing, arriving late, or not sending at all, forcing a switch back to Google Messages. Notifications have their own problem too: sounds are routed through media volume rather than the system notification channel, so alerts go silent if you’re playing music or have media muted, even with ringer volume maxed out. On top of that, the app reportedly demands full contact list access to function at all and repeatedly nags users to disable battery optimization every time it’s opened.

Who Should Actually Download BiP

BiP makes sense for users inside Turkcell’s ecosystem or anyone wanting a feature-dense, free alternative to mainstream chat apps, especially for calling and translation tools. But the recurring login lockouts on reinstall, shaky SMS handling on some Android devices, and notification volume bugs are serious enough that anyone relying on it for essential communication should think twice before deleting their current app. If you do install it, avoid uninstalling or switching phones carelessly, since getting back in is not guaranteed.

Pros

  • Free with no subscription required
  • Rich feature set: translation, polls, reminders
  • HD voice and video call quality
  • Works without mobile data on some carriers
  • Encrypted, privacy-focused messaging

Cons

  • Frequent 'too many failed attempts' login lockouts
  • SMS delivery issues on some Android phones
  • Notifications muted by media volume settings

What Real Users Say

Russell Stover 2/5

“I've completely set up the app. Was using it fine through chat. But sms does not work for Google Pixel 7pro Verizon Wireless. My messages are missing, delayed, or not there. So I had to switch back to Google messages. Please fix, the app. Could be so much better than Google, if it worked correctly.”

“I've been using this app for a long time. anyway, a couple of days ago, I switched to a Motorola razr 2024 model flip phone. Since then I cannot reinstall Bip in my new phone. but, each time after putting my cellphone number a dialogue box opens and says "Too many failed attempts. Please try again later". Experiencing the same…”

“Wasting time. Still experiencing problems. I have been facing lots of issues for 15 days 😢 during server reinstallation (Error showing 'too many attempts' and unable to relogin). I have sent the query to the mentioned ID along with Number, no fruitful result obtained.”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is BiP - Messenger, Video Call?

BiP is a free communication app developed by Turkcell that offers instant messaging, HD voice and video calls, group chats, channels, and extras like disappearing messages, live location sharing, and translation in over 100 languages. It's built by Turkish engineers and used by millions worldwide as an alternative to apps like WhatsApp or Telegram. It also includes features like reminders, status updates, and an emergency safety-sharing tool.

2

Is BiP free to use?

Yes, BiP is completely free to download and use with no subscription fees. Thanks to certain operator agreements, some users can even message and call without using their mobile data plan. Details on which carriers and tariffs qualify are listed on BiP's official website.

3

Does BiP work well after switching to a new phone?

This is one of the app's biggest weak points. Multiple users report being locked out with a 'too many failed attempts' error when trying to reinstall BiP or log in on a new device, sometimes for weeks with no resolution from support. If you're planning to switch phones soon, be aware this could disrupt your access.

4

Are there issues with SMS or notifications on BiP?

Yes. At least one user on a Google Pixel 7 Pro with Verizon reported missing, delayed, or failed SMS messages. Separately, notification sounds are tied to media volume rather than the system notification channel, meaning alerts can go silent if media is muted or another app is playing audio, regardless of ringer volume.

5

Who is BiP best suited for?

BiP suits users who want a free, feature-rich messaging app with strong calling quality and extras like translation and reminders, particularly those on Turkcell or partner carriers who benefit from data-free usage. It's less suitable for anyone who might need to reinstall or switch devices soon, given the reported login lockout issues, or for those relying heavily on SMS integration.
