What This App Is Trying to Be

Olympics: Live Sports & News is the official IOC companion app for following the Olympic and Paralympic Games, plus qualifying events leading up to them. It combines schedules, results, live streams of qualifiers, news articles, and podcasts into one place, with the ability to follow specific sports, teams, and athletes for a customized feed. It’s aimed at anyone who wants a single hub for Olympic content rather than jumping between broadcaster sites and social media.

Where It Actually Delivers

When it works, users genuinely like it. One reviewer called it ‘frickin amazing’ for letting them search past climbing events, pull up replays, and cast them to a TV, saying the app finally worked the way they’d hoped for years. Another praised the schedule tools specifically, noting you can filter by medal events, specific sports, or a specific country, which makes it much easier to keep track of a packed Games calendar without wading through every event. The ability to follow favorite athletes and sports for a tailored feed is a real strength when the underlying data is accurate.

Spoilers and Missing Settings

The most common substantive complaint is that the schedule shows results of completed events right alongside upcoming ones, with no easy way to hide them. One reviewer called this the ‘biggest issue,’ explaining they wanted to view the schedule without having outcomes spoiled before they could watch a replay. Notably, another review says this can be fixed via the ‘Filters’ option in the schedule to hide results, suggesting the setting exists but isn’t obvious or consistently surfaced to everyone, which is its own usability problem.

Reliability Issues That Lock People Out

A recurring and more serious problem is the app simply failing to load. Multiple reviewers describe a ‘connection is lost’ error that persists through repeated uninstalls, reinstalls, and phone restarts, effectively locking them out of the app entirely despite the developer claiming fixes were shipped. Others report the schedule vanishing entirely in dark mode, though in at least one case this was resolved within 24 hours after being reported. There’s also a complaint about being logged in yet still hitting a paywall-style prompt after a few paragraphs of an article, asking to sign up again with membership credentials.

An App That Tries to Do Too Much

One heavily-upvoted review sums up a broader design complaint: the app tries to do everything – news, podcasts, streaming, schedules, results – and as a result makes it harder to do the one basic thing most people want, which is finding your sport, checking the schedule, and getting results once they’re final. For a simpler use case, that scattergun approach can feel like friction rather than convenience.

Who Should Download This

If you want deep, multi-sport Olympic coverage with filterable schedules, athlete-following, and replay casting to your TV, this app can genuinely deliver that experience when it’s running well. But go in aware that connection errors, inconsistent dark mode behavior, and spoiler-heavy schedules have frustrated a meaningful chunk of users. It’s worth downloading ahead of the Games, but don’t be surprised if you need to dig into the Filters menu or troubleshoot a login hiccup or two.

Pros

  • ✓Filterable schedule by sport or country
  • ✓Lets you follow favorite athletes/teams
  • ✓Replay streaming with TV casting works well
  • ✓Curated podcasts and behind-the-scenes news
  • ✓Custom feed for personalized Olympic content

Cons

  • ✕Results shown in schedule spoil outcomes
  • ✕Connection errors block app entirely
  • ✕Paywall prompts persist even when logged in

What Real Users Say

H Palacios ★ 1/5

“deserves a zero. Another case of an app that tries to do everything and consequently is of little use. All a person wants is to find the events of interest so they can be apprised of the schedule and find results once they're finalized. Should be able to find your sport, like track and field, find your event and boom,…”

“This app has a lot of great info and potential, but ended up being very disappointing due to lack of options in the settings. The biggest issue is that it shows the results of completed events in the schedule - please add an option to hide results to avoid spoilers!! I would love to view the schedule for all of…”

“frickin amazing. I'm actually able to search for past climbing events, list the replays and even cast them to the TV. The app finally seems to work like I've been expecting it to the last 2 years or so.”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Olympics: Live Sports & News?

It's the official IOC app for following the Olympic and Paralympic Games, including qualifying events. It offers schedules, results, live streams, news, and podcasts, plus the ability to follow specific sports, teams, and athletes for a customized feed. It's designed as an all-in-one companion for fans tracking the Games.

2

Is Olympics: Live Sports & News free?

The store listing doesn't mention a paid tier and the app is positioned as a free companion app, though some reviewers report hitting membership sign-up prompts to finish reading certain articles. This suggests some content may require a free account or membership login rather than a direct payment. There's no evidence in user reviews of a required purchase to use core features.

3

Can I hide spoiler results in the schedule?

Some users report a 'Filters' option in the schedule that lets you hide results, which can prevent seeing outcomes before you watch a replay. However, other reviewers say they couldn't find any way to hide completed results and called it the app's biggest flaw. It seems the option exists but isn't consistently easy to find for all users.

4

Does the app work reliably for live streaming and replays?

Reviews are mixed: at least one user praised being able to search past events, watch replays, and cast them to a TV without issue. Others report a persistent 'connection is lost' error that prevents the app from loading at all, even after multiple reinstalls. Reliability appears inconsistent depending on the device or timing.

5

Who is this app best suited for?

It's best for dedicated Olympics fans who want a single app for schedules, results, live qualifiers, news, and podcasts, and who don't mind occasionally troubleshooting bugs. Casual users who just want quick schedule and results lookups may find the app's breadth of features more cluttered than helpful. If you value TV casting and athlete-following features, it's worth trying despite the rough edges.
