What Skrill Does and Who It’s For

Skrill is a digital wallet from Paysafe Holdings that lets you pay on websites, send money abroad, hold multiple currencies, and get a Visa prepaid card without linking everything to your bank. It’s aimed at people who gamble, trade forex, or shop on gaming sites where traditional bank cards aren’t always accepted, plus anyone who wants to send money internationally to another Skrill user. The Knect loyalty program and Sports Corner stats add some extra incentive for frequent users, but the core appeal is being a middleman wallet you can fund, hold currency in, and pay from without exposing your actual bank details.

Where the App Actually Delivers

One reviewer who used the card specifically for sweepstakes deposits and withdrawals gave it 5 stars, saying it works well for that exact purpose, and noted the app layout is easy to navigate with friendly customer service reps when you do reach them. If your use case is a straightforward prepaid card for online deposits, some users report it does the job as advertised. The multi-currency holding feature and contactless payment support via Google Wallet are also part of the pitch, appealing to people who move money across borders regularly.

The Recurring Funding and Transfer Failures

The loudest and most consistent complaints center on money simply not moving. Multiple reviewers describe transactions failing repeatedly with vague ‘feature unavailable’ or ‘transaction failed’ messages and no explanation given. One user spent over a month with two fix tickets open and still couldn’t complete a transfer. Another said a $25 deposit took three weeks to arrive, only for the account to then get restricted. Debit cards getting misread as credit cards is another specific complaint, triggering higher fees and much lower limits, which blocked funding entirely for at least one reviewer.

Customer Support Is a Major Pain Point

Support tickets getting auto-closed without confirming the issue was actually resolved is a complaint that came up more than once, with one user reporting it happened to them twice. Others describe calling multiple times just to reach a human, only to get generic answers that didn’t fix anything. This matters a lot for a finance app, since when a transfer fails or funds get held, you need a working escalation path, and multiple reviews suggest that path is currently unreliable.

Currency Conversion Frustrations

Holding multiple currencies sounds convenient on paper, but one reviewer pointed out that after converting funds and losing money in the exchange, they still couldn’t use those currencies to pay by card, withdraw, or spend online, calling the whole feature pointless as implemented. This is a specific gap between what the store listing promises and what at least some users experience once funds are actually sitting in the wallet.

Verdict: Who Should Actually Download This

Skrill can work fine for narrow use cases like funding a specific gaming or sweepstakes site, and some users have no issues at all. But the volume and specificity of complaints about failed transfers, frozen funds, and unresponsive support suggest you shouldn’t rely on it as your only option for moving money, especially amounts you can’t afford to have stuck in limbo for weeks. If you have no other choice for a particular platform, go in with low expectations and a backup plan.

Pros

  • Easy to navigate app layout
  • Works well for sweepstakes deposits
  • Visa prepaid card usable in stores
  • Holds and exchanges 40+ currencies
  • Contactless payments via Google Wallet

Cons

  • Frequent transaction and transfer failures
  • Unresponsive, auto-closing customer support
  • Converted currencies often unusable for payments

What Real Users Say

James Moore 1/5

“I spent over a month trying to get the app to work properly. Two fix tickets, and attempting to log on from a computer to navigate their dashboard as instructed by their so called customer support. All for nothing. The app won't work to transfer anything, and any attempt to log in from a computer ends with a "something went…”

Tranquility In Chaos 2/5

“Customer service is friendly and app layout is easy to navigate. But, I wasn't able to load/fund account using my debit card. For whatever reason, the system recognized it as credit and for credit, there are higher fees associated with it and ridiculously low limits set. Couldn't fund. Couldn't transfer. Uninstalling. *Please don't sell my information*”

Josh Lyons 1/5

“This app is awful. I've been trying to transfer $25 into it for at least 3 weeks and since the money finally reached the account they put a restriction on it and it takes at least 2 days to respond to requests. Unfortunately, you may have no choice but to use this app...But just be prepared to encounter numerous issues…”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Skrill - Fast, secure payments?

Skrill is a digital wallet app from Paysafe Holdings that lets users pay on websites, send money internationally, hold multiple currencies, and use a Visa prepaid card. It's designed for people who use gaming, forex, or gambling sites where a direct bank connection isn't ideal. It also includes a rewards program called Knect and sports statistics through Sports Corner.

2

Is Skrill free to use?

The app itself is free to download, but Skrill charges fees for certain transactions, currency conversions, and card funding methods. Several users reported that funding an account with a debit card was misread as a credit transaction, triggering higher fees and lower limits. It's worth checking the current fee schedule in-app before relying on it for regular transfers.

3

Can I use Skrill to send money abroad?

Yes, Skrill is built for sending money internationally, either to other Skrill users using just a phone number or email, or to bank accounts in multiple countries. The store listing advertises low-cost international transfers as a core feature. However, some reviewers reported significant delays and failed transactions when trying to move money, so reliability may vary.

4

Does Skrill have a prepaid card?

Yes, Skrill offers a Visa Skrill Prepaid Card that isn't linked to your bank account and can be used online, in stores, or at ATMs. It can also be added to Google Wallet for contactless payments, and can be frozen from within the app if lost or stolen. One reviewer specifically praised it for sweepstakes deposits and withdrawals, though noted limits on virtual card transactions within a 24-hour period.

5

Is Skrill's customer support reliable?

Based on user reviews, customer support is a significant weak point, with multiple complaints about support tickets being automatically closed without resolving the underlying issue. Users also described having to call multiple times just to reach a person, then receiving only generic responses. If you anticipate needing help with a transfer or account restriction, be prepared for a potentially slow and frustrating process.
