What This App Promises and Who It Targets

Phone Tracker By Number, made by Family Locator inc under the OneLocator brand, is built for parents, couples, and families who want to share GPS locations, set up geofenced safe zones, check battery levels, and ring a lost phone even when it’s on silent. The pitch is simple: invite-only, consent-based location sharing so you can stop texting ‘where are you’ and just check the map. On paper it covers the basics that most family-locator apps promise, from live location to location history to driving speed.

In practice, this is a free app with a paid tier gating some of the more useful functions, and that split is where most of the real user experience actually happens.

Where the Tracking Actually Works

When it functions, reviewers say the GPS pinpointing is genuinely accurate. One long-term user reported using it for a couple of months without being let down, noting it updates roughly every minute or when the tracked person leaves a location, as long as they have location and data enabled. Another user called its ability to pinpoint exact GPS ‘awesome’ even while complaining about other issues. So the underlying location technology can perform well under the right conditions.

The Reliability Problems Users Keep Hitting

The bigger pattern in feedback is inconsistency over time. Multiple reviewers describe the app working fine at first, then breaking down after a few uses or a few hours, with locations no longer updating at all. One user said manually hitting ‘Location’ produced a ‘connection successful’ popup but no actual location update, with no way to force a refresh without upgrading to Pro. Another said tracking simply stopped working after the initial setup and never recovered, even on new phones. A few reviewers also noted the app sometimes shows the location of the wrong phone entirely, undermining the core feature the app is supposed to deliver.

Paywalls, Ads, and Billing Complaints

Several reviews describe hitting a paywall almost immediately, with one user saying tracking stopped after only a few hours and was replaced by a prompt to pay for premium features. Others mention frequent ads pushing other tracker apps. A recurring and more serious complaint involves billing: one reviewer described paying $0.89 for a day pass, trying to cancel the next day, being told ‘no subscription found,’ and then getting charged again within minutes — a red flag for anyone entering payment details. There’s also a report of a rating pop-up appearing immediately after install, before the user could even test the app.

Should You Download Phone Tracker By Number?

If you just need occasional, short-term location checks and don’t mind a free-tier app with ads and eventual upsells, this could work for a day or two based on user reports of initial accuracy. But if you need dependable, ongoing family tracking, the pattern of location updates silently failing over days or weeks — plus at least one detailed billing complaint — makes this a risky pick. Read the subscription terms carefully before entering payment info, and consider testing thoroughly during any free period before relying on it for anything safety-critical.

What Real Users Say

Ramblin Man 1/5

“Waste of time. After only a few hours of using it it would not show me the locations of my phone at all, only a link to pay for premium features. And most the time it alerted me the location of my phone and not the phone I was trying to use. So basically if you want tracking for only…”

“I really wanted to like this app but it just doesn't work consistently. Most of the time the location doesn't update. Manually hitting Location gives a popup that says connection was successful but location doesn't update. There's no way to force a refresh unless you buy the pro version which is a very expensive subscription. Also there are way too…”

“Ugh. Best one I have tried for Android. Bugs after you use it once, it doesn't work anymore. So make it count, but its ability at pinpointing exact GPS is awesome. Even if you uninstall and reinstall, it keeps settings so you will see your entry still there. It needs to destroy all files on uninstall in the registry, everywhere.…”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Phone Tracker by Number?

It's a family locator and GPS tracking app from Family Locator inc, part of the OneLocator platform. It lets invited family members share real-time locations, set up geofenced safe zones, check battery status, and locate or ring a lost phone. It's designed for consent-based sharing rather than covert tracking, so both parties need to install the app and accept the invite.

2

Is Phone Tracker by Number free?

It's free to download and use at a basic level, but several features are gated behind a premium subscription or day pass. Users have reported the app pushing paywall prompts after only a short period of use, and at least one reviewer described billing issues after purchasing a day pass, so check pricing details carefully before subscribing.

3

Does the location tracking update reliably?

Reviews are mixed. Some users report accurate updates roughly every minute over months of use, while many others say tracking works initially but stops updating after a few hours or days without recovering. A few also reported the app showing the wrong phone's location entirely.

4

Can I use this app to track someone without them knowing?

No. The app is explicitly designed for voluntary, transparent location sharing between trusted contacts, and sharing only starts after the invited person accepts, installs the app, and grants location permissions. It is not built or intended for secret surveillance.

5

What are the biggest complaints from users?

The most common complaints are location updates silently failing after initial use, aggressive upsells to a paid tier, ads for other tracker apps, and at least one detailed report of a billing dispute involving a paid day pass that was allegedly charged again after a failed cancellation attempt.
