What Talabat Actually Offers

Talabat is a one-stop delivery app covering food, groceries via Talabat Mart, pharmacy items, pet supplies, and flowers across the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt. It’s aimed at anyone in these markets who wants a single app for daily errands rather than juggling separate services for restaurants, groceries, and household needs. The app also bundles in a subscription tier called Talabat Pro, a co-branded cashback credit card, Dine Out Deals, Pickup ordering, and a loyalty points system, positioning itself as more of a lifestyle super-app than a simple food delivery tool.

Where It Delivers Well

For users who stick to the basics, ordering food or groceries in one place is genuinely convenient, and the breadth of categories, from pharmacies to pet supplies, means fewer app switches during a week of errands. The loyalty points and cashback card structure gives frequent users in supported countries a real incentive to stay in the ecosystem rather than bouncing between competitors. Order tracking and the 24/7 help center are advertised prominently, and for straightforward transactions many users do get the fast, no-fuss delivery experience the app promises.

Navigation and Interface Frustrations

A recent redesign moved the search function so that users now have to tap the top search bar twice just to start typing, a change reviewers specifically call out as a step backward from the previous bottom-icon layout. Restaurant ratings are also described as unreliable, making it harder to judge quality before ordering. On top of that, one reviewer reported that a premium plan button appears right after checkout in a spot that’s easy to tap by accident, instantly charging for a subscription with no confirmation step and no automatic refund.

Billing, Refunds, and Support Complaints

The most serious recurring complaint involves money handling: canceled orders paid by card are reportedly refunded only as in-app credit that expires after 12 months, not returned to the original payment method. Multiple users also describe discount displays near the cart total that appear to apply to the whole order but actually only discount a single item, leaving the rest charged at full price. Customer support is repeatedly described as slow or unhelpful, including cases where lost email access to an account couldn’t be resolved despite repeated contact, and canceled items were denied reimbursement because Talabat’s own system allegedly showed no record of the cancellation.

Regional Restrictions Worth Knowing

Users outside the supported countries trying to send orders to friends or family reportedly cannot complete a purchase without a local phone number, since the app requires an in-country number to receive its verification code. This blocks a use case that competitors reportedly handle without issue, according to one reviewer who switched apps after failing to place an order.

Final Verdict

Talabat works reasonably well as a daily convenience app for residents in its supported countries who order simple, straightforward deliveries and don’t need to dispute a charge. But the refund-to-credit policy, misleading discount displays, accidental subscription charges, and inconsistent support responses are real risks worth weighing. If you’re an occasional user wanting groceries or takeout, it’s serviceable; if you rely heavily on customer service or expect straightforward refunds, go in with caution.

“1-The App makes you press on the search bar twice, which is on the top, just to open the search! (before it was better, as having the search icon on the bottom rather than needing to click on the top bar twice just to do the same thing) -2-Also the evaluation of the restaurants is a mess.. can't trust them..you…”

“If your order gets canceled and you paid by card, they don't refund your card, but they give you credit which you can only use with Talabat, and it expires after 12 months!!! So my money expires if I don't use it in your app?! And I see no option to have the money back to my card. What's is…”

“Talabat advertises discounts next to your cart total, making you believe the savings apply to your entire purchase. They don't. The discount applies to only one item. Everything else is charged at full price with no warning. Their regular prices are also noticeably higher than other stores and apps. So even with discounts, you're still overpaying. Save your money and…”

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is talabat: Food, grocery & more?

Talabat is a delivery app that lets users order food, groceries, pharmacy items, pet supplies, and flowers in one place. It operates across the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt. The app also includes a subscription tier, a cashback credit card partnership, and a loyalty points program. It's designed to function as an all-in-one delivery hub rather than a single-purpose food ordering app.

2

Is Talabat free to use?

Downloading and using the base app is free, but delivery fees typically apply per order unless you subscribe to Talabat Pro for unlimited free delivery. There's also a co-branded credit card offering monthly cashback, which is optional. Some reviewers reported being charged for the premium plan accidentally due to an easy-to-tap button after checkout, so it's worth checking your order confirmation carefully.

3

Does Talabat refund money for canceled orders?

According to user reports, canceled orders paid by card are not refunded back to the card but instead issued as in-app credit. That credit reportedly expires after 12 months if unused, which frustrated multiple reviewers who wanted their original payment method refunded. There doesn't appear to be a straightforward option to convert that credit back to cash.

4

Can I use Talabat if I don't live in one of its supported countries?

Based on user experience, placing an order without a local phone number in a supported country can be difficult or impossible, since the app requires a local number to receive its verification code. This can block users trying to send orders to friends or family abroad. Reviewers noted switching to competitor apps that didn't have this restriction.

5

Are the discounts shown in Talabat accurate?

Not always, according to user feedback. Some reviewers reported that discounts displayed near the cart total appeared to apply to the entire order but actually only applied to a single item, with everything else charged at full price. It's recommended to double-check itemized pricing before completing checkout to avoid surprises.
